On May 10th 2024, a meeting of the Competition Commission for the "All models are wrong, but some of them are useful" competition was held at the Faculty of Technical Physics and Applied Mathematics of the Technical University of Gdańsk, during which selected competition works were presented.
Thanks to the high level of submitted papers and presented speeches, the Commision decided to award additional prizes and distinctions.
The winners of the competition are equally:
-Mrs Małgorzata Śmiszek (Technical Psychics, Technical University of Gdańsk), for Her work regarding the topic: "What are models and why are they so helpful";
-Mr. Kacper Grosz (Medical Physics, University of Gdańsk), for His work regarding the topic: "All models are wrong, but some of them are useful - analysis of the thesis based on imaging diagnostics";
-Mrs Anna Saldat (Mathematical modeling and data analysis, University of Gdańsk) for Her work regarding the topic: "All models are wrong, but some of them are useful"
The winners of the competition will be able to take part in a professional training course in data storytelling (awarded with a certificate) and will receive a voucher to the Helion bookstore worth 250 PLN as well.
Additionally, the Commision awarded further distinctions:
-for Ms. Amelia Dolińska (Mathematical modeling and data analysis, University of Gdańsk) for Her work regarding the topic: "Selection of assets using the Markovitz model and the capital goods valuation model";
-for Mr. Łukasz Bielawski (Mathematical modeling and data analysis, University of Gdańsk) for His work regarding the topic: "The complicated reality";
-for Mrs Julia Zakaszewska (Mathematics, Technical University of Gdańsk) for Her work regarding the topic: "The importance of models in diagnosing the risk of stroke. Practical application of machine learning in medicine".
The prize here will be the possibility to take part in a professional training course in data storytelling.
